Dr. Gupta felt that none of the system of medicine is complete in its own, though each has its own merits with limitations hence OVIHAMS caters to need of the hour i.e. to provide Integrated Medical Services to the needy patients.

An impressive function on 8th August 1999 marked the opening of OVIHAMS (Om Vidya Institute Of Homoeopathy And Allied Medical Sciences) OVIHAMS is the brainchild of Dr. A.K. Gupta, a leading Homoeopathic Consultant of International repute who has been decorated with many awards including the prestigious Dr. Yudhvir Singh Award and Dr. Ziemblicki Zygmunt Research Centre U.S.A. Who also gave the slogan to Homoeopaths that "Homoeopathy Ensures Health Safely" Dr. Gupta in his long medical career of more than 2 decades has always endeavoured to provide the best medical care to the patients within reasonable means. To mark 1999 as the International Year of Senior Citizens (Geriatrics), Dr. Gupta has dedicated this Institute to his revered elderly parents Shri Om Prakash Gupta and Smt Vidya Wati who are the guiding force to him.

Dr. Gupta in his brief informative address to the gathering shared his concept behind the Institute. He said that in his long medical career he has realized that Homoeopaths were looked upon as second grade physicians and Homoeopathy as the second and third choice as a system of medicine by most of the people. Homoeopathy, he felt despite marvellous results and high curative rate, comparable to any other system of medicine, lacks a proper avenue to highlighten and project itself and OVIHAMS has been brought up to fill in this vaccum. Homoeopathy, he said has wonderful remedies for most of the emergency medical conditions including Angina Pectoris, Status Asthmaticus, Epileptic Fits, Coma, Severe Hypertension but Homoeopaths because of lack of exposure in dealing with such cases as well as non availability of proper accessory aids and diagnostic tools, shirk to take up such cases, which not only deprives the patient of effective Homoeopathic treatment but also brings a question mark to deal such cases by this system of medicine. He said that at OVIHAMS all patients desirous of taking Homoeopathic treatment even in emergency shall be taken up and physicians from other disciplines of medicine including allopathy could also be consulted for diagnosis and monitoring the progress of the case.

However, Homoeopathy, like any other system of medicine has its limitations, said Dr. Gupta and therefore OVIHAMS aims to provide integrated medical services to the patient under one roof. It has been observed that the ignorance regarding the efficacy of other system of medicines or hesitation to accept the other system of medicine or lack of interaction with the medical experts of other system of medicine which unfortunately leads to the prolonging of the already suffering patients. Most of the time the patients are in dilemma that which would be the most appropriate system for his particular ailment and where to seek that medical advice. Therefore, he said, that the need of the hour is that experts of various system of medicines shun away their misconceptions and work with an open mind towards integrated approach to provide the best possible medical care to the suffering humanity.

OVIAHMS very shortly proposes to start Special Clinics and OPD's in the afternoon on weekly/ fortnightly basis on Geriatrics, Diabetes, Endocrinological Disorders, Hypertension, Drug De-addiction, Mental Retardation etc. where the integrated approach shall be adopted and an environment would be created for the combined future research also.

At OVIHAMS orientation programs for Homoeopathic Doctors for upgradation of their professional knowledge, both in the field of Homoeopathy and Medicine at large are also proposed in the near future. For this programme suggestions are invited by the director of the Institute.
